Warning on Fort-Ross Ltd in Russia

If you happen to be considering speaking or otherwise participating in an event put on by Fort-Ross Ltd, an events agency in Russia specializing in IT conferences, I strongly suggest caution. In October 2005 I spoke at Fort-Ross's Russian CIO Summit in Moscow. Because a Russian translation of my book had recently appeared, I agreed to wave my usual speaking fee as long as the company covered my expenses. Despite more than a year's worth of reminders and despite assurances from the company's CEO, Vera Semyonova, that payment was forthcoming, the company has never reimbursed me. The amount is not large - a few hundred dollars - but this is the only time I've ever been stiffed by a conference organizer (or any other company, for that matter). If you're doing business with Fort-Ross, you might want to get your money up-front.

(Should the company decide to reimburse me at some point, I will of course delete this page.)
